OrangeCrushAlien

More dabbling with paint programs.  The background is from SUMO Paint.  I wanted to “title” the image with my Alien glyphs, but obviously I can’t just click the Text tool and type the stuff in.  The trick is layers, and to make layers work, I need a transparent background.  It turns out that I can generate transparent pixels programmatically by setting the alpha value equal to zero.  (Alpha is like a fourth color, along with red, green and blue.)  So: generate the glyphs with a transparent background and import into a new layer.  Put the glyph layer on top of the image layer so that the image shows through the transparent pixels.  Combine the layers.

Then I switched to GIMP and added my favorite goose.  Similar terminology compared to SUMO Paint, but different enough to be confusing.

That is indeed a most excellent goose.

Overall, it makes me think of a Japanese work depicting a goose which, while munching away on the local soccer field, ate the wrong mushrooms.

    Silly goose.

I like this one a lot. It makes the viewer question: Is this what the goose sees? What language is the “caption” written in? Is this goose stoned. Who does the goose represent?

Thanks for the feedback. I got carried away with the process. If I were doing this again, I’d move the “center” of the orange background up and to the right. I’d make the glyphs bigger, and I wouldn’t use as many of them.

I like this one too, but I thought it might be too weird.

The glyphs are very Zen. They convey meaningfulness without meaning. They are the sound of one hand clapping. The juxtaposition of the realistic goose with the abstract background, combined with the glyphs, creates a pre-verbal instant of pure perception, followed by a “WTF moment”, followed by all the analytical drivel.

    We are the goose.
