I’ve seen kite surfers do something like this over the ocean, but water is soft compared to rocks.
I think this is what the anthropological types refer to as maladaptive behavior. In this environment it tends to shorten one’s life significantly without lengthening those of one’s offspring.
On the other hand, this risky but fearless behavior may help him attract a mate. Evel Knievel had 4 kids, one of whom went into the family business.
