The hike is about two Diamond Heads worth, but the Diamond Head trail has a lot of switchbacks. Koko Crater is one long straight grind, anywhere from 30 degrees to 45 degrees. Compared to Diamond Head, it’s not crowded at all. The endless track isn’t particularly interesting, but the views at the top are spectacular.

Did you climb the tracks or walk along beside? When does the train run? I wouldn’t mind riding a train up, but my legs are too short to make climbing up railroad ties attractive.

There is no train. There was a cable car many years ago, and there is a rusted winch at the top. The rails look OK, but some of the ties have rotted out. I walked mostly on the track, sometimes alongside, and under the bridge with the holes in it.
The ties are inconveniently spaced. One step per tie is too long a stride, but two steps per tie makes one leg to all the lifting.

Nice flik, Dan. I didn’t notice any of the psychokillers at the gun range throwing hot lead your way tho, nor all the perforated corpses the City Parents are concerned about.

There was no welcoming ceremony at the trailhead. I had to sit on my flak jacket and park my motorcycle with an evasive maneuver. Basically I was told to keep my head down and run for the top of the hill.
Once out of sniper range, I negotiated a peace treaty and arranged for some humanitarian relief.

You are clearly ready to hit the ground running and lead the next hike. You have my vote!
